AUGUST 2003 UPDATES

The Sauganash Community Association held an open meeting on August 12, 2003 to hear discussion regarding the property development at Kostner and Peterson.   North Shore Bank has purchased this property.  Bank representatives along with architects and building contractors attended the meeting to present their plans for a two-story building with an attic third floor storage and drive-through facility.  The meeting allowed neighbors to ask questions about safety, lighting and traffic.  Following the meeting, the SCA Board requested the bank provide a traffic study for its review.

At this time, the Sauganash Community Association Board of Directors has been asked to address the specific issue of whether the bank should be permitted to build a drive-through feature.  The SCA Board will be meeting on September 23, 2003 to discuss community views and to assess the safety and traffic concerns.

There is also a proposal for the development of Cicero and Peterson which will be presented at an open meeting tentatively scheduled for October 28, 2003 at Sauganash Park.  The development would include condominiums and a Whole Foods Store.

A community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Sauganash Park by Alderman Laurino to discuss the new bike trail that is to commence construction tentatively next year.

Principal Christine Munns hosted a meeting with Alderman Laurino at Sauganash School on August 20, 2003 to discuss the addition of the mobile unit.  The meeting was attended by Local School Council members, teachers, parents and neighbors of the school.  Presenting information on behalf of the Chicago Public Schools operations was Mr. Thomas McGreal.

Mr. McGreal explained the physical layout of the unit and its advantages compared to the existing mobile unit.  This unit is ground level.  There will be no stairs or ramps.  This new unit will have 150 square feet more than last year’s module.  All electric is underground.  And these units are air conditioned.

Concerning the playground, Mr. McGreal informed us that the new location of the playground is where the existing putting greens are located, the southeast corner of the school’s grounds.  The brand-new playground will be installed by November 1st with all new equipment.  The modular unit is expected to be completed by early November.
