AUGUST 2009 MEETING UPDATES

The 5K Race will take place September 27, 2009 at 9:30 AM. at Sauganash Park. Tasks to 1 completed include calling sponsors to collect donations, assembling packets and organizing the packet pick up. Help is still needed on the race day for set up and cleanup. Sponsors an welcome to set up a table. An application has been submitted to the Park District for use of the Park. We have asked the Park District to sponsor the race and to waive the usage fee.

The 4th of July Picnic and Parade was a success. Expenses were submitted, and it was noted that the Alderman was very helpful in the permit process. We addressed the liquor issue for next year as the permit process was expensive and difficult.

The membership committee reported that there are 576 paid members of the approximately 1600 Sauganash households. An email is going out to unpaid members as reminder. There was a discussion regarding public acknowledgement of dues paying members in the Sounds. It was decided to publish the information. There will be a membership table at the 5K Race.

The bylaws committee reported that proposed changes to the bylaws are coming soon.

A new member application was presented and discussed. The applicant was approved and accepted for membership to the Board.

A board member attended a 17th District Police meeting and reported that the Police Commander would like to use these meetings for disseminating information to the community. Homeowners are asked to participate in two important crime preventing activities. Leave porch lights on all night and put house numbers on garages or alley entrances. This is because street lights can be dimmed by vegetation, and emergency police and fire often approach residences from the alley.
The group discussed the problem of increased noise from air traffic. It was determined that committee should be formed for the expressed purpose of obtaining facts from the Department of Aviation and to ask the Department to speak to the SCA and the ECA A motion was made and accepted to set up a committee for that purpose for the current year.

Board members are encouraged to contribute information to the SCA Calendar.

As a 501c4 the Board was reminded to check to make certain that required reports are up to date.

Motions were made and accepted to have Sauganash Chamber booklets mailed to our members and to purchase and ad for the booklet. If funds become available we will purchased a banner from the Chamber.

New committees for the coming year were determined. They will be as follows: Communications and Web Site, Design/Real Estate/Zoning, Finance/Donations, Forest Preserve/Parks, Legal, Membership, Public Institutions, Social Events/Special Events, and Traffic/Safety/Noise.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
