JUNE 2009 MEETING UPDATES

Board of Directors of the Sauganash Community Assn.

Minutes of June 16, 2009

An open meeting of the Sauganash Community Assn. was held on June 16, 2009 at the North Shore Community Bank

President Sue Williamson called the meeting to order at 7:01 PM.

A motion was made and carried for approval of the May minutes.

Plans for the 4th of July picnic and parade were discussed.  Volunteers for the set up and clean up at the park are still needed.  A call will be made to Alderman Laurino’s office for help with permits.  Kids are being sought to help with the clean-up and high school or college students for the concessions.  They will be paid a stipend.  The group discussed the supply of the Sauganash decals, and it was decided that the old design was preferred.  We will determine what quantities we now have.  The set up for a new platform for the flag ceremony was discussed.  A motion was passed for the allocation for funds for the speaker rental.

An email was sent out to remind people to pay their dues and from that we received 104 memberships.  A paper mailing will also go out.  The group discussed the possibility of printing membership names in the paper.  No decision was made.

The groups discussed the 5K race which is scheduled to take place September 27, 2009 at 9:30 AM.  We discussed co-sponsorship by the Sauganash Chamber and the 39th Ward.    Funding was discussed and a motion was made and carried that we would continue to host the race in conjunction with the Chamber but funding would not be released to them to cover operating expenses.

The by-laws committee has met several times and continues to review and perhaps make changes to our antiquated by-laws.

The nominating committee stated that there are openings on the Board available.

Lots of emails are circulated to our membership and guidelines for what should be forwarded to the membership were discussed.  It was determined that communications from the 39th Ward will be forwarded in a condensed form.  Phil Kritzman is drafting the guidelines based on the board’s recommendations.

It was reported that the North Park River Commission is working on the easement at North Park Village.  The group had a breakfast meeting with the Sauganash Chamber, Albany Park Chamber and the Chicago Police Department.  The Executive Director of the Commission stepped down and they hope to have a new director by August.

The SCA Committees for 2009-10 are to be reformed in August.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 P.M.
