MARCH 2002 OPEN MEETING UPDATES

On March 26, 2002 at 7:30 p.m., the Sauganash Community Association held an open meeting to the community at Sauganash Park.

John Maunsell, president, opened the meeting and had all current board members introduce themselves and welcomed everyone.  He commented on the new Sauganash Community Association decal and letter that was mailed out to all members of the Association.  Unfortunately, there was some problem with certain people receiving the decal and certain people not receiving it.  We are investigating the mishap and hope to have the decal to everyone as soon as possible.

Chris Stodder asked to speak at the meeting regarding the development of Kostner and Bryn Mawr.  He spoke about "jurisdictional wetlands" versus actual wetlands being declared by the EPA at the site.  Thirty neighbors contributed $2,000 for a wetland expert's study.  He asked the board for a dollar-for-dollar match.

Mr. Stodder spoke about a possible community buy-out proposal that was offered to Zach Joseph, but those negotiations fell through.  He asked that the issuance of building permits be held up until the wetlands issue is resolved and wants to know why the issue of the barricade for Bryn Mawr is tied in any way to the construction of these new homes.

The current condition of the property at Kostner and Bryn Mawr is one single-family home foundation is poured with a second home to be begun soon, the estimate is that framing on both homes is to be completed by the end of April.

The Alderman's office informs us that the plans for the barricade are to be finalized in June and that the land east of the railroad tracks was donated back to the City.

Holly James spoke about the launch of the Sauganash Community Association's web page as of April 1st.  The web site is this one, http://www.Sauganash.org.  Please log in and check it out.

Susan Kelsey described a letter that was sent to the Alderman's office regarding funding for a community survey.  This survey will be sent to all residents asking for input regarding the community's needs or desires for the future as it relates to many different issues.  We will be working with the Alderman's office to collect this information.

There was a list distributed at the beginning of the meeting with social activities listed almost on a monthly basis for the community.  SCA is interested in providing more opportunities for the community as a whole to come together more frequently.  Susan Kelsey is looking for volunteers interested in making some of these events happen.

The current situation regarding Cicero and Peterson: the developer, Imperial Realty, presented to the board a proposal of an 8 to 9-story condominium project.  This was rejected by the board.  The site was also down-zoned recently.

Douglas Chien, a conservation field representative for Commissioner Mike Quigley of the Cook County Board, spoke regarding the forest preserves in our area.  He introduced himself as our new rep and offered literature for those interested after the meeting.  Given the length of the meeting and time, Mr. Chien was unable to speak at length and hopes to have an opportunity to present information to the community regarding the issues with the forest preserve in the future.
