MAY 2002 OPEN MEETING UPDATES

The Sauganash Community Association held an open meeting on Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at 7:30 p.m. at the Edgebrook Public Library.

The executive board officers for 2002-2003 were approved as follows:  Kenneth Cunniff, president;  Joan Biebel, 1st vice-president; Dennis Hammer, 2nd vice-president; Phil Kritzman, treasurer; and Jennifer Costales, corresponding secretary.

Principal Christine T. Munns of Sauganash Elementary School spoke about the current status of Sauganash School and presented a video of teachers and students in action at the school.  The student enrollment is at an all-time record high of 350 students, 99% of which come from the neighborhood.  There are currently 19 different languages spoken at the school.

Ms. Munns reported an overcrowded situation at the school.  What is needed to help the overcrowding is an addition to the school or another modular unit to accommodate the growing student population at Sauganash.  Without such relief, space to accommodate students might have to come from the computer lab or other areas of the school.

The annual 4th of July parade will take off at 9:30 a.m. at the entrance to Sauganash Park on Kostner.  Immediately following the parade will be our annual picnic in the park with hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, and drinks.  There will be games and prizes for the kids.  This event is sponsored by the Sauganash Community Association.

$200 was approved for maintenance of the landscaping of the circle at Kostner and Ionia, and $250 was approved to sponsor a baseball team for the Edgebrook Sauganash Athletic Association.

Congratulations to board member Bob Perkaus for being named coach of the year!

It is important that all members send in their e-mail address to the association.  We are compiling lists to ensure prompt notification of information that might be happening in the neighborhood.
