OCTOBER 2010 MEETING UPDATES

A meeting of the Sauganash Community Association was held at the North Shore Community Bank on October 18, 2011.

President Renee Bennett called the meeting to order at 7:01 P.M

A motion was made and approved to accept the September 20, 2011 minutes.

It was reported by the Snow Plowing Committee that the 2011/12 contract has been signed with our service provider at the same price as last year.  The mosquito abatement program did not go over budget this year.

The membership committee reported that we currently have 661 paid members. A second email blast is planned.

Several Board members attended a second meeting regarding plans for the vacant property at 4300 W. Peterson.  This time the group met at the North Shore Community Bank with representatives from Swedish, Alden, Sauganash Park, the syndicator for Alden, Alderman Laurino and one of her associates.  The proposed project would include a three story medical office building with an urgent care center on the first floor.  It will face Peterson Avenue.  A second building will be four stories high and contain 84 senior apartments of which 75 units will be designated for limited income seniors.  The site will contain 190 outdoor parking spaces: 103 to Swedish, 57 to the affordable housing rental and 30 for the Alden offices.  After a lengthy discussion it was determined that the Board has questions that need to be answered before it will be able to issue an opinion on the project.  A list of questions is being prepared.

The 5K Race Committee reported that the gross income from the race was about $13,000.  All the expenses have yet to come in before it can be determined the final amount of money given to the Loyola Fund.

Plans for the Holiday Party were discussed.

The Board decided to post suggested hours on our website for trick or treating.  The suggested hours are from 4 to 8 P.M.

The board representative for the planned mural project for the Sauganash bike trail underpass on Peterson, presented some information about types of murals.  The two major mural types presented were to create a painted mural or create a biolage.    The board preferred the biolage because it is a powerful tool for involving the entire community.  A biolage is a combination of several art forms and can include, paint, mosaics, glass pieces, etc.  It can be adapted to any theme, and all ages can participate. .

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 P.M.
