SEPTEMBER 2011 MEETING UPDATES

A meeting of the Sauganash Community Association was held at the North Shore Community Bank on September 20, 2011. 

President Renee Bennett called the meeting to order at 7:05 P.M

A motion was made and approved to accept the August 16, 2011 minutes.

A presentation was made by several community organization representatives and a member of the Field museum staff.   They gave a summary of some of the neighborhood projects that resulted from the community’s involvement in the Chicago Climate Action Plan.  They presented a proposal for a community mural to be created under the viaduct at the Sauganash bike trail.  They requested the board’s support for this project. 

The membership committee reported that we currently have 632 paid members which is slightly above last year at this point in time.  A second mailing is being planned.

At the Board’s request, several Board members attended an informal meeting at Alderman Laurino’s office regarding plans for the vacant property at  4300 W. Peterson.  A project has been proposed which would include affordable housing for seniors and a medical clinic on the site.

A report detailing plans for the 2011 Sauganash Community Association Bob Perkaus Memorial 5K was passed out.  The race is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 2nd, are in full swing.    On site registration will start at 8:00 A.M.  Race starting time is set at 9 AM.  A volunteer sheet was passed around and final details were discussed.  The race supports a scholarship fund given to two students at Loyola Academy, each of whom has lost a parent.

A motion was made that 100% of this year’s net proceeds will go to the scholarship fund.  After discussion the motion was passed.

A motion was made to endorse the plan for use of the viaduct space for a mural, and to move the $1500 stipend given to the Board by the Field museum as a contribution to the mural fund.  The motion was passed.

The treasurer passed out a financial report for the period from May 31st to August 31, 2011.

The Public Institutions Committee reported that there will be a community open house at Sauganash School on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 11 to 1 P.M.  A motion was made that a $200 donation be made to the Sauganash Elementary School for supplies to come out of the 5K fund.  The motion was passed.

It was reported that work is still being done on the website.

The O’Hare noise committee chair reported that he is now the official 39th Ward representative to the O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission.

The Special events committee reported that they are working on plans for the holiday party.

It was reported that the new Sauganash Twitter Account has been launched.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
