Imperial purchases Tarpey's Pharmacy Building by BRIAN NADIG No major changes are planned for the Tarpey's Pharmacy building, 4752-54 W. Peterson Ave., and the six-story Edens Office Plaza, 4801 W. Peterson Ave., following their recent sale to Imperial Realty, which also owns four other office buildings near Peterson and Cicero avenues.
"We hope Tarpey's is to be a fixture at the corner of Peterson and Cicero for many decades," Imperial Realty president Al Klairmont said. In the past, residents have cited their support of the independently owned drug store as a reason for opposing proposals to open a chain pharmacy in Sauganash.
Imperial is seeking a tenant for the building's second storefront, which fronts Peterson and which formerly was occupied by a florist. The entire property, including a rear parking area, totals about 6,000 square feet.
Klairmont said that the 90,000-square-foot office-plaza building, which once houses the offices of Skil power tools, will continue as a "well run and well maintained professional office building, predominantly filled with medical and law offices." He said that some beautification improvements are planned for the property, whose parking lot entrance is located on Cicero.
Other properties owned by Imperial are the Edens East office towers at 6160 N. Cicero and 6200 N. Hiawatha Ave., Executive Towers at 5901 N. Cicero Ave. and Edens View at 4747 W. Peterson Ave. Imperial also recently purchased a residential property in the 5900 block of North Keating Avenue and is seeking to use it for parking for one of its buildings.
Imperial, which has its office in the Edens View building, also once owned several vacant parcels at the northwest corner of Cicero and Peterson. Those properties were sold earlier this year to Brook-Ridge Development, which is in the midst of a $60 million development of the site which features 136 condominiums and a Whole Foods grocery store.
